  1. You seem to be getting pretty good colour from your scans. What scanner are you using?

    • Epson V500 – just a cheap flatbed. For the price ($150 new), I can’t complain, but dedicated film scanners blow it out of the water. The V500 is pretty terrible with most color films (negative or positive) but adequate with quite a few black and white films. I’ve pretty much resorted to shooting only the films that scan the best. The film I used for this shot (Kodak Ektachrome E100VS) scans better than most slide films.

  2. “dedicated film scanners blow it out of the water”

I wouldn’t say that. I’ve been using an older Nikon Coolscan IV and I’m not happy with how it’s scanning my old Kodachromes.

    • Welcome to the hell that is Kodachrome scanning. Very few scanners can properly handle it (although a change in software may help). My friend had a Coolscan IV (now broken) and he scanned some of my slides/negatives for comparison; it definitely beat the V500, sometimes handily.

I miss my scanner, a Minolta Scan Elite 5400 was great but has now died.

    • You know I was just reading about that scanner (creepy); actually, the 5400 II. Seems like a decent scanner, although it does appear prone to all kinds of issues.

MY first though was: “Awww, yellow!” The colors makes me so happy. 🙂 Nice and different picture of a flower.

    • Thanks. Yellow is tough to photograph, but I think this turned out alright.

  8. This is so nice to see the colours comming back in spring. Yellow is sometimes difficult to catch, – you did it well here 🙂

    • With film, yellow is ALWAYS difficult to catch. 🙂
